Samuel Smith's Lager, Samuel Smith Brewery
Even though England is known for her ales, as is Samuel Smith, this golden colored Lager with a weaker head is an exception to the rule. A bit hoppier than most Lagers it has a fruity flavor that is quite refreshing. This is a great thirst quencher and would be ideal on a hot summer day. Samuel Adams boost their all organic ingredients and pristine waters.

Grolsch Premium Lager, Grolsch Brewery
This Dutch Pilsner style Lager has a light golden clear color with a decent head. It has a nice slightly bitter tingling sensation to the taste. There are virtually no sweet overtones and it has a very crisp flavor to it. Brewed following the purity laws of Germany, only natural ingredients in this beer.

Warsteiner Premium Verum, Warsteiner Brewery
This German Pilsner style Lager has a very light golden clear color with a really good creamy head. It has a crisp, light hops bitterness with sweet like honey overtones Of course it uses only German hops. Since it's A German beer, nothing needs to be said about its purity.

Midnight Sessions Lager, Port Brewing Co.
This is a true Schwarzbier (black beer). Dark thick coloring with a weak brown head. My first thought after tasting this beer is this a lager or a porter? This black lager has strong tastes of coffee with a hint of dark chocolate and a bit of a sour taste. Not really my cup of tea. This is not a buy again for me.

Bitburger Premium Beer, Bitburger Braugruppe
This pilsner style lager has a light golden clear coloring, with a rather weak head. It has a nice hoppy bitterness for a lager. The taste is light and dry, Even though they tote it as a full bodied beer, it doesn't give a heavy feeling. Bitburger Premium is a good tasting brew and a definite thirst quencher. Brewed to the strict regulations of the German Purity Law.

Coney Island Lager, Shmaltz Brewing Co.
This Lager has a dark copper color with a nice head. It has a fresh malty aroma to the nose. This Lager has 8 malt and 6 hops varieties with a Czech Pilsner Yeast, pretty impressive. There was a good malty dryness that was very pleasant. It has a good hoppy bitterness for a Lager with a carmel like flavor. I'd have to put this beer on my list of favorite Lagers.

Our Reviews
When we review beers we don't go into this fancy diatribe like wine reviews, after all we're beer drinkers, not tea totters. If we taste a particular flavor, we'll mentioned the flavor but not mention 20 different hints of this and that. We don't rate the beers, because we believe that everyone has different tastes. If we don't like a beer, we'll tell you we don't like it. So enjoy the reviews and if there's a beer you'd like us to review, let us know. Prosit.
Working the Reviews
Even though reviewing beers is the most enjoyable part of creating this web site, it also takes a long time to review a lot of beers. I informed my wife that I need to take a week off from my day job to work on beerandmicrobrews.com. When I explained that I needed to taste a bunch of beers each day, she gave me this disgusted look and said "you've got to be kidding me"! She actually believes that my main reason for beerandmicrobrews.com is so I can justify drinking more beer. Can you believe the insanity of that reasoning? Instead of taking a week off I decided to have a beer review party. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who participated, it was a great theme for a party and a hell of a way to drink more beer, it won't be the last.

Lagers
Lagers mainly differ from ales because lagers are bottom fermented. Lagers differ widely in character than ales and can be low in alcohol content or very high in alcohol content. The vast majority of beers massed produced in the U.S. are Lager style beers.Largers coloring can also differ widely from light golden to a darker almost black coloring
Hot Rocks Lager, Port Brewing Co.
Just released in late March 09, I was anxious to try this new brew from Port. It's toted as a dark lager but the coloring looks like a Schwarzbier (black beer). It has a tan weak head and a sour licorice aroma. It has a bit of a heavy feel and is a very flavorful brew. It has a heavy carmel, roasted malt flavor, with a bit of a burnt licorice taste. When producing the wort for this brew they used an old tradition of heating rocks (hence the name) to bring the wort to a boil. A great brew from Port.

Elemental Pilsner, Lighting Brewery
This pilsner has a nice golden color with a nice white head. It has a strong banana type aroma. Don't let the aroma fool you, this brew packs a mouthful of flavor. A bit on the sweet side, this beer is probably the closest to a German Pilsner that I've tasted in the U.S. It seems to have some apricot flavors with a bit of hops bitterness. Lighting is one if the few microbreweries in the U.S. that specializes in Lagers. Two thumbs up to the brewers at Lighting Brewery. Using imported pilsner malts, classic pilsner hops and pilsner yeast, if you like German pilsner you've gotta try Elemental Pilsner.

Kirin Ichiban Special Premium Reserve, Kirin Brewery of America
Light golden and clear in color with a decent white head, there wasn't much of an aroma. I'm not sure when this ordinal Japanese beer started making beer in the U.S., but it seems that it lost some of its appeal. Kirin
Ichiban is now brewed by Anheuser-Buch. Even though this brew is not toted as a pilsner, it has a slight pilsner feel and taste with light fruity flavors. It's a pretty decent beer for a hot summer day that is definitely a thirst quencher. Next time I get sushi I'll probably get a Sapporo.
